The Story Behind NUNA

NUNA is more than just a name—it carries a deep, personal meaning. It took me two years to find the right name, and when I did, it felt like home. Inspired by the Korean word 'noona', meaning "older sister", NUNA embodies care, protection, and guidance—just like an older sister watching over you.

Meet Nhu and Her Story

For over a decade, I worked in retail, starting at just fifteen. My job became my identity, and I sacrificed my well-being for work, money, and others. I believed that without my job, I was nothing.

In March 2022, I made the difficult decision to walk away. It was terrifying but necessary. This newfound freedom allowed me to finally focus on my health, well-being, and self-care. I spent the next year rediscovering myself—traveling for the first time, embracing new experiences, and learning to slow down.

But life has a way of coming full circle. My passion for nail artistry soon turned into a profession, and as a nail technician and small business owner, I found myself slipping back into old habits—overworking and neglecting self-care. My health declined, my confidence faded, and I realized that without balance, even the things we love can drain us.

That was my wake-up call.

Why NUNA?

The journey to self-care led me to create NUNA—not just as a business but as a movement. Growing up in an immigrant Asian household, I often avoided using my real name, opting for Western names like Natasha or Jess to fit in. Now, in my late 20s, I’ve learned to embrace my name, my culture, and my identity fully.
